The BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has responded to the “reported” request of Cricket Australia on the possibility of two pink-ball Tests in 2020. India will be touring Australia as a part of the ICC World Test championship next year.
“I have not heard anything officially from Cricket Australia. Two out of four will be a bit too much…it can”t replace traditional Test matches. But we can have one Pink Test every series,” said Ganguly in India Today Conclave at Kolkata.
India has now played just one pink-ball Test, against Bangladesh recently. Though India won the Test comfortably, no further pink-ball fixtures have been planned as a part of the Indian tour at present.
However, all the visiting teams to Australia have played a D/N Test as a part of the tour barring India.
Taking it forward
Further discussions on the same are expected to commence during the limited-overs leg against Australia next year. The teams will engage in a three-match ODI series starting January 14.
A lot of reports surfaced online regarding the feasibility of converting the tour to a 5-match series.
It is reported that a team led by Cricket Australia”s chairman Earl Eddings will visit the delegates of the BCCI to get their opinions on the same.
