Australia cricketer Steve Smith feels winning the Border Gavaskar Trophy in India will be bigger than winning the Ashes. He expressed that it is difficult to win Test matches in Indian conditions. The four-match Test series between India and Australia will kick off on February 9 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.
The visitors have lost all the last three Border Gavaskar Trophy contests. They suffered a 2-1 loss the last time they played a Test series in India. Given the track record and the tough Indian conditions, Australia will be gearing up for another intense battle. In a video uploaded by cricket.com.au., Steve Smith said,
“It’s a difficult place to win… a Test match let alone a Test series. So you know if we’re able to topple that mountain that would be huge. I think if we can win India that would be bigger than an Ashes series.”

Winning the series will be extremely special: Mitchell Starc
Australian pacer Mitchell Starc feels that winning the Border Gavaskar Trophy in India will be a special achievement. He expressed that it is one of the hardest countries to play for touring teams, and also pointed out how strong the Indian team is at the moment. Speaking in the video shared by cricket.com.au., Starc said,
“Playing a series In India would be very special to our group. I think it’s always been a bit of a crown jewel for Australian touring teams. It’s one of if not the hardest place to play away with such foreign conditions, how strong the Indian team are at the moment as well. For our group particularly the way, we sit at the minute and how we are building as a group, learning and adapting and bringing that experience. I think it will be extremely special.”
