Team India batter Jemimah Rodrigues powered her side to a comfortable win against Pakistan on Sunday, February 12 at the Newlands, Cape Town in the 2023 T20 World Cup. She was named the Player of the Match for her unbeaten fifty as India won the match by seven wickets. Post the win, Jemimah opened up on the lowest phase of her career.
The youngster was dropped from the Indian squad for the ODI World Cup last year. She expressed that during the period she wasn’t in a good headspace. Jemimah Rodrigues added that she had thought of giving up many times during that phase. Speaking at the post-match press conference, she said.
“I think this time last year when I was at home and I was not in a good headspace because I was dropped from (India’s) 50-over World Cup squad. That was the toughest time for me, but there was so many people who helped me throughout this time.”
“Honestly, many a time I had nothing to tell myself. I had, there were so many times I had given up, you know I didn’t have the strength to carry (on) and I know a lot of people say you need to back yourself you need to motivate yourself but when a person is going through, they only know what they’re going through,” she added.

Team India batter Jemimah Rodrigues further revealed that the people around her helped her to get through the lowest phase. She expressed that is blessed to have those people around. Jemimah added that the bad phase is one of the reasons why she made a roaring comeback in the team. She said,
“I was blessed that I had people who believed in me and helped me push through that time so I am just grateful to them. It felt like that was that was one of the lowest phases of my life. But it turned out to be the reason why I could come here today.”
