When asked the same to the former Indian world cup winning captain, Dhoni said “January tak mat poochna”.

Consequently, MS Dhoni missed the home series against South Africa, Bangladesh and West Indies. He was also not named in the squads for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka and the ODI series against Australia.

The way things have panned out in the last few months, one thing is clear that the selectors are unlikely to recall MS Dhoni until and unless he plays in domestic cricket or IPL again. Thus, the upcoming edition of the IPL looks like the only way through which MS Dhoni can return to the side and also play in the T20 World Cup in October.

Ravi Shastri has clearly said that Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a legend of the sport and needs time in order to take a decision about his future and he is satisfied with way Rishabh Pant is performing but wants more from the young wicketkeeper from Delhi.

“I have had a conversation with MS and that is between us. He has finished his Test career, he may soon end his ODI career. So he will be left with T20, he will definitely play the IPL. One thing I know about Dhoni is that he will not impose himself on the team. But if he has a cracking IPL, well, then…,” Shastri said while speaking to News 18.
