Right before the Indian Premier League starts on 31 March 2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore has been dealt a major blow as Will Jacks has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury.
Will Jacks was one of the players bought by the RCB franchise during the mini-auction held in December. He was bought for Rs 3.20 Crore and is known for his hard-hitting abilities.
He sustained the injury during the second One-day international victory over Bangladesh while fielding. Jack went to scans this week and in consultation with the specialist, he has been forced to be ruled out of this year’s IPL.
It was his first IPL season and would be an ideal chance to showcase his talent to put his case for the England ODI squad for the World Cup to be played in India this year.
Reece Topley is expected to be fit for the Indian Premier League after being sidelined for the entire Bangladesh tour including 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is due to a niggle. Royal Challengers Bangalore would be looking to improve their performance in the upcoming season as they reached qualifier 2 in the 2022 edition.
Jacks made his Test debut on the tour of Pakistan. He played 2 Test matches and 2 T20I matches in that series. Jacks finished as the 6th leading run-getter in the inaugural SA T20 league tournament with 270 runs from 7 matches with 3 half-centuries to his name and the best score of 92 playing for Pretoria Capitals.
According to the report, it is understood that Royal Challengers Bangalore is in discussion with New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell as a potential replacement for Will Jacks. Bracewell was a part of the mini-auction and was set a base price of 1 Crore but none of the franchises bought him.
Bracewell has performed brilliantly for New Zealand with a sensational 140 in the first One-day international match against India at Hyderabad almost taking them to a famous but fell short of the target.
