Out of favour Pakistan batsman, Umar Akmal has been suspended with immediate effect by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) under the governing body's anti-corruption code. While Pakistan Super League the details of the latest transgression, the suspension has put Umar's participation in the upcoming franchise-based league at stake.

Quetta Gladiators will face a massive setback with only a few days left for the next PSL. Umar Akmal forms a key part of the franchise and is one of the senior cricketers in the side. However, they will be allowed to sign a replacement for Umar Akmal.

While a board-appointed or independent tribunal will determine if Umar is indeed guilty of wrongdoing, the invoking of Article 4.7.1 of the anti-corruption code is a potential indicator of the graveness of the offence. As per the code in PCB constitution, they have the right to provisionally suspend the participant pending the Anti-Corruption Tribunals determination of whether he/she has committed an offence.
