Team India cricketer Ravindra Jadeja is known to be an outstanding fielder, probably one of the best in world cricket. His fielding brilliance was on display during the first ODI against Australia on Friday, March 17 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. He also pulled off a breathtaking catch in the match to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne.

The incident took place during the twenty-third over of the first innings. Australia was looking to rebuild a partnership after the dismissal of Mitchell Marsh. They were 138 for the loss of three wickets. However, Ravindra Jadeja’s great effort in the field in the twenty-third over struck another blow to the visitors’ batting attack.

Kuldeep Yadav bowled a short of a length delivery around the off-stump. Marnus Labuschagne went on the back foot to cut the delivery against the spin. However, the ball took a thick outside edge of the bat and flew towards the right of Ravindra Jadeja at the short third-man. Jadeja dived full-length to complete a stunning catch and end Marnus Labuschagne’s stay at the crease. The Aussie batter was dismissed for 15 runs off 22 deliveries.

Apart from his diving catch, Ravindra Jadeja was also fantastic with his ground fielding. He saved several runs for Team India with his fielding effort. The left-arm spinner also took two wickets in the innings. He dismissed Mitchell Marsh for a well-played 81 runs, and also send Glenn Maxwell back to the pavilion for eight runs.

Australia crumbles after Mitchell Marsh’s dismissal

Earlier in the match, Team India’s stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to chase. Australia was struck an early blow as Travis Head was dismissed for five runs by Mohammed Siraj with a beauty. Mitchell Marsh put together decent partnerships with Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne. However, after his dismissal, the Australia batting attack crumbled.

The visitors were bowled for 188 runs in around thirty-six overs. Mitchell Marsh was the leading run-scorer in the innings with 81 runs, while the rest of the batters faltered. India’s pacer bowlers Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj took three wickets each in the innings.
