Team India bowlers didn't look in outstanding rhythm in the recently-concluded series against New Zealand as they went down 0-2 in the Test series. This is also the first time Virat Kohli & Co dropped points in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship. Meanwhile, former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has picked two bowlers who could have fared well in the land of Kiwis.
On the surfaces, where New Zealand pacers sent shivers down the spine of the Indian batters, the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Umesh Yadav struggled to break the defence of the Kiwis. They showed good rhythm only during the first innings of the second Test where they bowled out the home side for a small total; thus securing a seven-run lead.

Otherwise, they looked quite ordinary throughout the series. As the post-analysis continues, Sanjay Manjrekar has named two bowlers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar could have fared better, had they played for India in New Zealand. Manjrekar in a question-answer session on Twitter suggested that Bhuvneshwar and Deepak would have benefitted from the conditions before citing the example of New Zealand all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme.
“Bhuvi and Chahar’s bowling styles were more suited to the conditions we had for the Tests. Look at DeGrandhomme’s effectiveness as a bowler," Manjrekar wrote on Twitter in a reply.
Incidentally, both Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar were injured in the lead up the New Zealand series. While the former suffered from a sports hernia, the latter too was ruled out due to a back injury. Bhuvneshwar recently returned to action in the DY Patil Cup but Chahar's return is still not known and can miss some part of IPL.
