Team India suffered a humiliating defeat against Australia in the finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 at the Melbourne Cricket Stadium on March 8 – International Women’s Day. To everyone’s surprise, an angry fan has filed a petition against Indian men’s skipper Virat Kohli urging him to stop congratulating India in events organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney struck the highest scores in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final history, and Megan Schutt took four wickets as record-breaking Australia secured a fifth title on home soil. The opening pair put on 115 for Australia and never looked back, with Healy (75) lighting up Melbourne, who witnessed a record-breaking attendance of 86,174, with a jaw-dropping display. India’s bid to chase 185 was always going to be difficult, with leading wicket-taker Schutt taking the first four-wicket haul in a final to restrict Harmanpreet Kaur’s side to 99 all out.

Meanwhile, on the eve of the game, many Indian cricketers – current and former including Virat Kohli had wished luck for the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side. Besides congratulating the team for reaching the finals, Kohli also extended greetings for the final clash.
“Congratulations to the Indian Women’s team on qualifying for the @T20WorldCup final. We are proud of you girls and wish you all the luck for the finals. @BCCIWomen,” Virat Kohli had tweeted.

However, India failed to win the match finishing as the runners-up. This is the second time in two years the women in blues finished on the wrong side in a title clash. Following this, an angry Indian team has filed a petition against the Team India skipper. The fan believes Virat Kohli tweets jinx the team. A petition on Change.org was started by Abhinay Thakur asking for a suspension of the social media accounts of the talismanic run-scorer.
“Stop Virat Kohli and Sehwag from wishing Indian teams in ICC tournaments especially in Semis/Finals. These both jinxx our victories..! Suspend their social media accounts if they don’t stop posting congratulations post (sic),” Thakur’s petition reads.
