The IPL 2023 matchups between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) have been compared by all-rounder Moeen Ali to the storied rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool. A cricketer’s experience in an MI-CSK match, in his opinion, is comparable to that of an international match.
On Saturday, April 8, the evening game of the doubleheader will take place at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, resuming the historic rivalry between Mumbai and Chennai.
MI started their IPL 2023 campaign with an eight-wicket loss to RCB. CSK has won one and lost one of its two games thus far.
Moeen discussed the rivalry between MI and CSK during a press conference before the significant matchup on Saturday. He said:
“I am really looking forward to this game. As a cricket player, this is one of the biggest games you can play outside of international cricket. These are the two most popular franchises, and they have a sizable fan base. It’s comparable to Manchester United playing Liverpool from the perspective of football. These are significant competitions.”
The England all-rounder supported Deepak Chahar, a pace bowler who struggled in the team’s opening two games. When talking about him, Moeen said:
The only thing he requires at this point, in my view, is more time for playing and setting the rhythm. He underwent a serious injury and is now making a comeback. He won’t get any better as the competition progresses unless he can bowl in a proper game, which you need to be a bowler.
“He is a big bowler for us, and he can get three or four wickets in the powerplay when he plays well.”
Chahar scored 0/29 and 0/55 against the Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, respectively. According to Kieron Pollard, the match between MI and CSK is “just another game.”

Even though there is a lot of anticipation among fans for this weekend’s major match. MI batting coach Kieron Pollard said it was just another game. He said this while downplaying the hype:
It is merely a game. Mumbai vs. Chennai is a major match that is referred to as the IPL’s El Clasico. There are high expectations for who will prevail in this game. ”
Pollard asserts that it will be crucial for players to follow through on their plans, whether they involve the bat or the ball. He continued:
“It’s about remaining calm and playing the natural game, watching that white ball when you’re playing, and just trying to keep it in the right grip and line when you’re bowling. Continue carrying out the plans that have been established to dominate the opposition.”
He further says, “On my former West Indies team player Dwayne Bravo being in the opponent side, also as a coach, he continues:
“I am curious to look at how my batters play when they face DJ Bravo, the bowling coach for CSK, and his side. Hopefully, we can determine who will be crying and who will be singing at the conclusion of the match.”
