The joint second-fastest fifty of the IPL 2023 was scored by Jason Roy of the Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday against the Chennai Super Kings at the Eden Gardens.

In the 14th over, Roy added a four off Matheesha Pathirana to bring his score to fifty runs off 19 balls. The fastest fifty of the season was scored by Nicholas Pooran against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 15 balls. The other player to score fifty in 19 balls during this IPL season is Ajinkya Rahane of the Chennai Super Kings.

Earlier in the game, Rahane scored his fifty off 24 balls, while Shivam Dube slammed a half-century in 20 balls. Roy last participated in the IPL in 2021 for Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he amassed 150 runs in five games. The 32-year-old English batter has played 64 T20Is for his home team, scoring1522 runs at a strike rate of 137.61.

For Rs. 2.8 crores, KKR acquired the Englishman for this IPL season. Roy’s starting price was Rs. 10.5 crore. The veteran batter has played his 2nd match and displayed brilliant performances in both matches played so far.

Kolkata Knight Riders while bowling first, was not able to pick up wickets at a crucial stage and Chennai scored a whooping total of 235 runs while batting first. For Chennai Dvon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Ajinkya Rahane played terrific knocks.

The new upcoming pacer Kulwant Khejroliya managed to pick up 2 wickets for his side, whereas Varun Chakravarty and Suyash Sharma picked up 1 wicket each.

Kolkata while chasing down lost early wickets and were 3 runs for 2 wickets at one stage, however with the likes of Jason Roy and Rinku Singh they gave a slight hope to the fans.

It however seems run felt short for the KKR side, as they were not able to build a stable partnership for a longer course and kept losing wickets at regular intervals which led them to out of the game completely.
