Axar Patel discussed the terrible IPL 2023 season for Delhi Capitals. And said he would have declined the captaincy if it had been offered midway through the campaign.
Delhi Capitals are currently ninth in the standings with 10 points after 13 games, with five wins and eight losses. Due to their poor performance, they were already eliminated from playoff contention.

Axar added that he was never asked to take over as captain and that nothing would have changed for DC in the IPL 2023 even if he had been.
“Mere captaincy lene se sb kuch change nahi ho jata. Ek banda kharab kar raha tha is something that is not true. Even if I had been the captain, things might have stayed the same. Usme captain kya kar sakta hai. You can’t blame the captain for our collective failure as a team”, he said.
“I never talked about becoming captain, but if I did, I wouldn’t accept responsibility in the middle of a season. I don’t want to ruin the mood in the changing room”, he continued.
Delhi made Axar the second-most expensive player for the team. When they paid 5 crores for him at the IPL 2019 auction. Axar has played in 136 matches. And amassed 1403 runs during his time in the IPL. He has also claimed 112 wickets.
