India is set to host the 2023 World Cup later this year in October and November, featuring 10 teams from around the world.
The participating teams include India, Pakistan, Australia, England, South Africa, Afghanistan, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands.
The defending champions, England, will commence their campaign against New Zealand, the runners-up of the previous edition.
Meanwhile, the host team, India, will begin their tournament against former world champions, Australia, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
The format of the 2023 World Cup will mirror that of the 2019 edition, with all 10 teams competing against each other once in the group stage.
At the conclusion of the group stage, the top four teams in the points table will progress to the semifinals.
During the group stage, India will face nine opponents, and it is interesting to note that three players from these teams are of Indian origin.
While the official squads for the tournament have not been announced, here are three players who are likely to play against India in the World Cup:
1. Vikramjit Singh, Netherlands
Vikramjit Singh is a key player in the Dutch lineup and has represented the Netherlands in 24 ODIs, scoring 795 runs. Born in Cheema Kurd, Punjab, Singh gained attention during the T20 World Cup, and his rise in the Netherlands team has impressed many fans.
2. Teja Nidamanuru, Netherlands
Teja Nidamanuru, born in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, provides stability to the Netherlands team with his batting and off-spin bowling skills.
His match-winning century against the West Indies during the Cricket World Cup Qualifiers played a vital role in the Dutch team’s qualification.
Nidamanuru will have the opportunity to showcase his talents against India at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
3. Ish Sodhi, New Zealand
Ish Sodhi, known for his excellent leg-spin bowling skills, has troubled India in previous ICC events. He played a pivotal role in New Zealand’s victories over India at the T20 World Cups in 2016 and 2021.
Born in Ludhiana, which is close to the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, Sodhi might receive some support from the crowd when New Zealand faces India on October 22 in the 2023 World Cup.
With these talented India-born players representing other teams, the matches between India and their opponents in the upcoming World Cup are anticipated to be exciting and closely contested.
