The Board of Control for Cricket in India and Cricket South Africa announced the schedule for India’s tour of South Africa 2023 on Friday, July 14 through a press release. The Indian team is all set to tour South Africa to play all the three-formats in December this year. The tour kicks off on December 10 in Durham with the T20I series.
India’s tour of South Africa in 2023 will witness three T20Is, followed by three ODI matches and a two-match Test series. Durban, Gqeberha and Johannesburg will host the twenty-over games. Johannesburg and Gqeberha will also host the first two ODIs with the third one played in Paarl. Meanwhile, the Boxing Day Test match will take place in Centurion and the New Year’s Test in Cape Town.
“The Freedom Series is significant not just because it features two excellent Test teams, but also because it honours Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela, two great leaders who shaped our respective nations, and the world around them,” said Jay Shah Honorary Secretary, BCCI in the press release.
“The Boxing Day Test and the New Year Test are amongst the most important fixtures on the international cricket calendar and the schedule has been planned particularly around these marquee dates. India has always received strong support in South Africa, and I am confident that fans will be treated to some enthralling contests with no shortage of intensity,” he added.
Mr Lawson Naidoo, CSA Chairperson also expressed that they eagerly wait for the arrival of the Indian Team for the tour. He highlighted the importance of the series for both teams. India last toured South Africa in 2021-22, when the hosts dominated them in both the ODI and Test series. India was whitewashed 3-0 in the ODI series and lost the Test series 2-1.
