For the unversed, a news report went viral on social media during the third Test, which accused Alex Carey of not paying for a haircut. However, it was a case of mistaken identity. Australian batter Steve Smith has taken a cheeky dig at the news story. Sharing a picture with Alex Carey, he wrote, “I can confirm that Alex Carey has now had a haircut and that he paid for it”

Former England cricketer Alastair Cook revealed the story about Alex Carey’s haircut during commentary. The Sun did an investigation on the story and confirmed it through the alleged barber, Adam Mahmood. In the report, the barber stated that he would be upset if he did not receive his ã30 before the deadline for the third Ashes Test at Headingley.
“(The barber) said, he hasn’t paid. It was one of those cash-only ones, and he promised he would have a transfer later in the day, and this was just before he shut. This is a true story, I’m not making it up,” Cook said while on commentary.
Later, Alastair Cook confirmed that it was a case of mistaken identity. He said, “There’s also been a bit of fuss around on a rainy day, a bit of news about a haircut that might have been discussed on the radio the other day,“ A case of mistaken identity, so I apologize for the mistaken identity to Alex Carey.”
