In the 4th Ashes Test held at Old Trafford in Manchester on Friday, July 21, Australian captain Pat Cummins made a critical breakthrough by dismissing England’s skipper, Ben Stokes.

Stokes played the ball onto the stumps during the 84th over of England’s first innings, attempting to flick an angled delivery from Cummins around the wicket.

The ball found an inside edge and went on to hit the stumps, resulting in Stokes’ dismissal and reducing England to 437/5 after 83.1 overs.

Despite his dismissal, Ben Stokes played a useful innings, scoring 51 runs off 74 deliveries, including five boundaries.

He was formed a strong 86-run partnership with Harry Brook for the fifth wicket, significantly extending the host’s lead by over 100 runs.

On Day 3, England got off to a fantastic beginning as Ben Stokes and Harry Brook’s outstanding batting displays continued the game with England at 384/4.

At the time of writing, England was at 462/5, leading by 145 runs, with Harry Brook and Jonny Bairstow on the crease.

On Day 2, England’s opener, Zak Crawley, delivered a remarkable performance, smashing 189 runs off 182 balls, which included three sixes and 21 boundaries.

He had impressive century and double-century partnerships with Moeen Ali (54 off 82) and Joe Root (84 off 95) for the second and third wickets, respectively, helping England surpass Australia’s first-innings total of 317.

England’s Chris Woakes achieved a five-wicket haul, contributing to bundling out Australia for 317 in 90.2 overs. Stuart Broad claimed two wickets, while James Anderson, Mark Wood, and Moeen Ali settled for one wicket each.

For the visiting team, Marnus Labuschagne and Mitchell Marsh scored half-centuries, while Travis Head and Steve Smith made contributions with scores of 48 and 41, respectively. Mitchell Starc remained unbeaten on 36 off 93.
