Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma has shared a fresh update on the potential return of star pacer Jasprit Bumrah to the national team. Bumrah has been sidelined for almost a year due to a troublesome back injury that required surgery.
While fans and the team have dearly missed his services, there are speculations that he might make a comeback during the T20I series in Ireland, scheduled for August.
Rohit Sharma, speaking at a press conference ahead of the 1st ODI, expressed uncertainty about Bumrah’s inclusion for the Ireland tour, as the team’s official announcement is yet to be made.
However, he remained hopeful that Bumrah would get enough playing time before the ODI World Cup, which is slated for October-November in India.
The captain emphasized the significance of Bumrah’s experience and acknowledged that returning from a serious injury requires regaining match fitness and feeling, crucial components that take time.
Despite the lack of a concrete confirmation, Bumrah himself has provided hints of an imminent comeback. He shared a video montage of his progress at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, where he has been undergoing rehabilitation.
The management is in constant contact with the NCA, and Rohit Sharma conveyed an optimistic outlook on Bumrah’s recovery.
India has felt the absence of Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling prowess and is eagerly awaiting his return
Jasprit Bumrah’s injury woes commenced last year before the Asia Cup, leading to his withdrawal from the tournament. He made a brief return during a home series against South Africa but had to be taken out midway due to recurring issues.
Consequently, Bumrah missed the T20 World Cup held in Australia. He was later added to the squad for an ODI series against Sri Lanka but was again ruled out after experiencing back pain.
This unfortunate sequence of events also prevented him from participating in the 2023 IPL, the four-match Test series against Australia at home, and the World Test Championship final.
With the T20I series in Ireland on the horizon, all eyes are on the team’s announcement, hoping to see Bumrah back in action and regaining his form and rhythm ahead of the highly anticipated ODI World Cup in India.
