West Indies named a strong squad for the upcoming T20I series against India starting on the 3rd of August and will finish on the 13th of August. The first match will be played at Trinidad which would be followed by 2 T20I matches at Guyana on 6th August and 8th August. Both teams will then travel to Florida for the last two matches on the 12th and 13th of August.
Rovman Powell will lead the squad and hopes to bring lots of energy. Shai Hope has been recalled into the T20I squad. Hope played his last T20I match against India at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Oshane Thomas has been recalled into the squad after being named in the ODI squad during the ongoing series against India.
Shimron Hetymer will make a comeback into the T20I squad after missing the World Cup in Australia last year and hope to bolster the middle order. West Indies will be strengthened by the hard-hitting Nicolas Pooran who played a breathtaking knock for Mumbai Indians New York during the Inuragul edition of Major Cricket League 2023.
“The squad is selected with the next ICC Men’s T20 WC in mind,” lead Selector Desmond Haynes said. “We are looking at various plans as we try to find the right combinations. As we prepare; we are looking to build a unit that we believe can do the job when we host the global event in just under a year. We have some match-winners in our line-up and we will look to have the right kind of preparation, starting here in Trinidad on Thursday.”
West Indies qualified for the T20 World Cup 2024 as being host along with the United States of America. The pace bowling department looks decent with the likes of Oshane Thomas, Odean Smith, Alazzari Joseph, Jason Holder, Obed McCoy, and Romario Shepherd.
Shai Hope’s performance in T20Is
Shai Hope has played just 19 T20Is for West Indies and scored 304 runs with 2 half-centuries to his name. His best score in this format has been so far 55. Despite scoring at a strike rate of 121.12, Hope has been given a chance to the squad to showcase his big-hitting skills in the 5-match T20I series against India.
