During an exclusive conversation with Timesnownews.com, Danish Kaneria expressed his disagreement with the decision to exclude Yashasvi Jaiswal, who displayed excellent performance in the Test and T20I matches against West Indies.
He also raised concerns about the inclusion of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul due to their limited match practice. India is set to play against Pakistan in the first match of the Asia Cup 2023. Danish Kaneria, a former Pakistani spinner, criticized India’s team choices for the event. He holds the view that Pakistan holds an advantage over the Indian team. India is ready to kickstart their participation in the 2023 Asia Cup with an exciting match against Pakistan on September 2nd in Pallekele, Sri Lanka.
The Indian squad for the tournament has been revealed, featuring significant changes in inclusions and omissions. The most significant updates include the comebacks of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul after their injuries. Yet, Danish Kaneria is doubtful about the influence that these two players might have against Pakistan. He also criticized the team management’s decision to leave out Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Speaking exclusively to Timesnownews.com, Danish Kaneria expressed his opinion that it was a mistake to exclude a player of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s calibre, especially considering his impressive performance in the Test and T20I series against the West Indies. Additionally, he raised concerns about the selection of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul due to their lack of recent match experience.
‘Yashasvi Jaiswal is a great batter who showed his potential in the Test and T20Is vs West Indies. You drop a player who is in tremendous form. Sanju Samson did not make use of the many chances that he was given, but still he was playing matces. You drop Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, but include KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer who lack match practice),’ said Kaneria.
“Advantage to Pakistan in Comparison to India” – Danish Kaneria
According to Danish Kaneria, Pakistan holds the advantage over India in their upcoming Asia Cup encounter due to their better-balanced team composition. Kaneria also pointed out that India’s performance in knockout tournaments hasn’t been stellar. He noted that while Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been inconsistent, Babar Azam and Imam ul Haq have displayed steady performance, as per Kaneria’s assessment.
‘It will be a good contest. Pakistan have the more balanced side. India’s showing in knockout tournaments have been poor. Babar Azam and Imam UI Haq have been in great for. India also lost the West Indies T201 series. Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah, and KL Rahul are coming back after injuries. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been inconsistent. Hence Pakistan have edge over India,’ Kaneria concluded.
