Senanayake voluntarily turned himself in to the Sports Ministry’s Special Investigation Unit, a pivotal move in the ongoing legal proceedings. Significantly, Senanayake stands accused of trying to manipulate matches during the 2020 Lanka Premier League (LPL).
It is alleged that he communicated with two fellow cricketers in Dubai by phone to conspire in match-fixing activities. These claims have tarnished his previously esteemed cricketing career.
In August 2023, the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court imposed a travel restriction on Senanayake. This action followed a thorough examination of the grave accusations.
It was prompted by the Attorney General’s directive to the Special Investigation Unit of the Sports Ministry to commence criminal proceedings against him. Senanayake refuted all accusations, asserting that they lacked truth and had no foundation.
In 2021, Senanayake’s request for anticipatory bail, aimed at preventing his arrest, was rejected by the Colombo Magistrate. From 2012 to 2016, the 38-year-old participated in only one Test match, 49 ODIs, and 24 T20 internationals.
In August 2023, Senanayake faced a travel ban, which was imposed by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court after an extensive inquiry into the mentioned accusations.
This action followed the Attorney General’s instruction to the Special Investigation Unit of the Sports Ministry to launch criminal proceedings against him.

In his cricketing journey, Senanayake proudly wore the Sri Lankan jersey, participating in a single Test match, 49 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and 24 T20 Internationals between 2012 and 2016.
He gained widespread recognition for his skillful off-spin bowling and remarkable control over his deliveries, especially when it came to delivering carrom balls with impeccable precision.
His exceptional talent in consistently delivering the carrom ball accurately was a defining aspect of his gameplay. In total, he secured 53 wickets in ODIs and 25 wickets in T20 matches.
In Sri Lankan domestic cricket, Senanayake excelled, taking 567 wickets in 112 first-class matches, highlighting his bowling skills.
