Rohit Sharma accidentally left behind his passport in his hotel room when departing for the airport after the Asia Cup 2023 final victory. As he got on the team bus, Rohit had to request a member of the support staff to retrieve his passport for him.
A video that has become widely popular on social media shows teammates on the bus teasing their captain as he somewhat awkwardly waits for a support staff member to return his passport.
The bus erupted in cheers while Rohit patiently awaited his passport. It’s worth noting that Rohit, a prominent figure in white-ball cricket, has a history of forgetfulness, so this video isn’t entirely unexpected.

In fact, during an interview a few years ago, his longtime teammate Virat Kohli once remarked that he had never encountered someone as forgetful as Rohit. During an episode of the ‘Breakfast with Champions’ show, Kohli had expressed:
“The number of things Rohit Sharma forgets; I have never seen anyone else so forgetful. iPad, wallet, phone, not the small things, but daily use essentials. I don’t care, I’ll get new one. he has no idea he’s left something, the bus would’ve travelled half way to the hotel and then he remembers ‘Oh, I left my iPad on the plane’.”
In fact, in the video, Kohli shared an incident where Rohit had forgotten his passport, and it was quite a challenge to retrieve it. He had mentioned: “It was really difficult retrieving it. The logistical manager always asks, ‘Does Rohit Sharma have all his stuff?’. Once he gets a yes from Rohit then only does the bus departs.”
Meanwhile, India secured a resounding victory over Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023 final, held at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, September 17. Pacer Mohammed Siraj was outstanding, taking 6/21 as India dismissed Sri Lanka for just 50 runs and successfully chased down the target in 6.1 overs.
Rohit Sharma attains captaincy milestones following Asia Cup victory
Rohit Sharma’s ninth win as captain in the Asia Cup 2023 final equalled the records of Mohammad Azharuddin and Arjuna Ranatunga, making them the only captains to achieve nine victories in the Asia Cup ODIs.
Following Sunday’s victory, Rohit Sharma became the third captain, after Azhar (1990-91 and 1995) and MS Dhoni (2010 and 2016), to secure multiple Asia Cup titles. He had previously led India to victory in 2018.
