Team India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, conducted a religious ceremony to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi upon his return to Mumbai after a successful Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka. Sharma secured his second Asia Cup victory as captain, with India defeating Sri Lanka convincingly in the final. His previous win as captain was in 2018 in the UAE.
Rohit Sharma, along with Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav, will sit out the initial two matches of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia. This decision was made by the selectors to provide playing opportunities to the backup players in the squad.
On Tuesday, Rohit Sharma shared a glimpse of his Ganesh Chaturthi ritual on his official Instagram account, along with a caption:
“गणपती बाप्पा मोरया! 🙏✨ (Ganapati Bappa Moraya!)”

Players feel comfortable around Rohit Sharma: Sanjay Manjrekar
Sanjay Manjrekar praised Rohit Sharma for fostering a positive team environment where players feel at ease. He also noted that Rohit is secure and genuine, unlike many public figures who often project a certain image of themselves. During an interview with journalist Vimal Kumar on his YouTube channel, Sanjay Manjrekar shared his thoughts:
“Players feel comfortable around Rohit Sharma. Yes, they would respect him as a captain and a player but it might not be very formal. The best thing about Rohit is that he is very secure. You never feel like he is trying to project an image of himself. Very few public figures are secure and Rohit is one of them.”
He added: “The environment within the Indian team has changed. There is a positive culture now. We saw how KL Rahul reacted when Kuldeep Yadav took a wicket after his suggestion. Similarly, when Axar Patel was batting, everyone was very happy to see him do well. There is professional respect among each other.”
