In the second One-Day International (ODI) match against Australia at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, India’s opening batsman, Shubman Gill, showcased his exceptional batting prowess by achieving his sixth ODI century. This remarkable feat was attained when Gill reached the coveted three-figure milestone after facing 92 deliveries.
The defining moment occurred in the 33rd over of India’s innings when Gill smartly managed to secure a single run off Sean Abbott. However, Gill’s brilliant innings came to an end when he was dismissed for a total of 104 runs, having faced 97 balls. The dismissal transpired when he attempted a big shot, sending the ball soaring into the hands of wicketkeeper Alex Carey, who made no mistake in completing the catch.
This century marked Shubman Gill’s fifth century in the ODI format for the year 2023. He had previously recorded centuries against New Zealand in Hyderabad and Indore, as well as against Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram, Bangladesh in Colombo, and Australia in Indore. Additionally, in the realm of T20 International cricket, Gill had also registered a century against New Zealand in Ahmedabad earlier in the same year.
