Nepal’s versatile player, Dipendra Singh Airee, made history by achieving the quickest half-century in T20 International cricket, surpassing the record set by former Indian cricket icon Yuvraj Singh on September 27.
In a historic moment, the 23-year-old cricketer achieved this record by hitting a fifty in just nine deliveries during Nepal’s first match of the 2023 Asian Games against Mongolia.
His exceptional performance played a key role in Nepal setting a new record for the highest T20I score, reaching 314/3 within their allotted 20 overs.
Dipendra Singh was part of Nepal’s inaugural ODI match against the Netherlands in 2018, marking his debut in both ODIs and T20Is against the Dutch in that same year.
He made his first appearance in List A cricket during the 2017 Cricket League Championship against Kenya. Dipendra Singh’s standout moment occurred during the 2017 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup against India when he delivered a remarkable all-round performance.
He played a brilliant innings of 88 runs, helping Nepal U-19 post a competitive total of 185. Additionally, he took 4 wickets for 39 runs, orchestrating India’s decline from 91/1 to being dismissed for 166.
Dipendra Singh’s remarkable performance, earning him the Player of the Match title, led to his selection in Nepal’s squad for the 2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Two competition.
Following this, he debuted in first-class cricket against the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in Nepal in November 2019. His consistent and impressive displays in cricket led to him being appointed as Nepal’s vice-captain for the 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup.
In his five-year career, the emerging all-rounder has participated in 52 ODIs and 44 T20Is, displaying impressive statistics, particularly in the shortest format.
Dipendra has amassed more than 1,100 runs in T20Is, maintaining an exceptional average of 35.58 and a striking 132.25 strike rate. His achievements include a century and five half-centuries.
Dipendra Singh participated in the Asia Cup 2023
Dipendra Singh was also part of the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023 and displayed potential during Nepal’s second Group A game in Pallekele against India.
After a disappointing performance against Pakistan, where he went wicketless and scored only three runs, the all-rounder showcased his skills against the eventual Asia Cup champions.
Batting at No.7, Dipendra contributed with a brisk 29 off 25 balls, aiding Nepal in posting a competitive total of 230. However, he couldn’t make a significant impact with the ball, recording figures of 0/12 in two overs.
Unfortunately, Nepal was eliminated from the tournament after losing to India by 10 wickets. Despite this, Dipendra Singh has solid figures in the 50-over format, having taken 36 wickets in 52 games with an average of 33.19 and an economy rate of under four runs per over.
