ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: “Not Ruled Out Yet” – Rohit Sharma Gives An Important Update On Shubman Gill’s Recovery

Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, offers an update on opening batsman Shubman Gill, who has tested positive for dengue fever. Rohit mentioned that Gill is feeling unwell, but his participation in the first match against Australia in Chennai on October 8 is not confirmed. Gill has had an outstanding year in 2023, particularly in ODIs, amassing 1230 runs and achieving five centuries. His possible absence would be a significant loss for the Indian team.

“Shubman has had high fever since landing in Chennai. His tests are being done. He will have tests on Friday and a call will be taken on his participation in opening game,” An anonymous BCCI source revealed this information.

However, Rohit Sharma emphasizes the importance of Shubman Gill’s full recovery and avoids rushing him back, considering his role as captain. He shared the following with the press before the India vs. Australia match:

“Gill is not feeling well, giving him every chance to see how he feels. Not ruled out yet. Shubman Gill is sick, I feel for him. I want him to be well. As a human being first, not as captain. He is a young boy, has fit body and he will recovery.”

Although Shubman Gill’s availability for the first game remains uncertain, Rohit Sharma is confident about the positive atmosphere in the Indian camp. This World Cup presents a great opportunity for the Men in Blue to break their title drought, and the team’s morale is soaring.

On this, he said: “Mood in the camp is very good. As it is going to be before start of every tournament. Quite confident skill wise. Looking forward to the game.”
