The Indian Cricket Team registered a resounding 8-wicket win over Afghanistan played at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi on 11th October 2023. It was a superb performance by Men in Blue as they chased down the target of 273 runs in just 35 overs.

It was a placid batting pitch as there was nothing for the bowlers. The Indian captain looked in sublime touch right from the word go putting pressure on Afghanistan bowlers. He completed his half-century off 30 deliveries. It was a sensational batting effort as he showed his array of strokes reaching century off 63 balls. The innings ended at 131 off 84 deliveries with 16 fours and 5 sixes. For his sensational knock, Rohit Sharma was named the player of the match award.

Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli completed the job as they won the match with 15 overs to spare. The Indian team moved to 2nd place in the points table as their net run rate is just below New Zealand.

During this brilliant innings, Rohit Sharma broke many records that helped India register a commanding 8-wicket win.

Rohit Sharma broke the record of Kapil Dev with the fastest century by an Indian in World Cup history. Rohit smashed a century off 63 deliveries while Kapil smashed century off 72 deliveries in the 1983 World Cup.

Rohit is the joint fastest 1000 runs in World Cup history. He has smashed 1000 runs in 19 innings while David Warner did in the same number of innings. Warner achieved the milestone during the first match at Chennai.

He overtook Chris Gayle by the most sixes in international cricket. Rohit Sharma has now 556 sixes. Rohit has smashed 556 maximums in 80 fewer innings across formats which is 472.

Rohit Sharma overtook Ricky Pointing in scoring the most centuries in the One-day international format. The dashing opener now has 31 hundred to his name.

He now surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most centuries in the World Cup. Rohit scored 7 centuries since 2015 while Sachin made 6 hundred.

He became the fastest Indian to score 1000 runs in World Cup history. Rohit now has 1109 runs in 19 innings. He is just behind Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli with the most number of centuries in the ODI format.
