In a significant pre-IPL 2024 auction move, the Lucknow Super Giants have decided to trade West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd to the Mumbai Indians. Shepherd’s brief stint with the Super Giants during IPL 2023 wasn’t quite memorable, as he featured in just one match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Lucknow.
Unfortunately, in that game, he didn’t even get the opportunity to showcase his bowling skills and was dismissed for a duck. As a result, this trade seems to be a strategic decision to reshuffle their squad and possibly strengthen other areas.
Originally, the IPL franchises were expected to disclose their lists of players they would be releasing and retaining by November 15. However, it appears that the deadline has been extended to November 26, giving them a bit more time to evaluate their options after the conclusion of the World Cup final in Ahmedabad.
The IPL player auction for the 2024 season is scheduled to take place on December 19, and this edition will mark a historic first as it will be held in Dubai, making it the maiden overseas IPL auction.

Romario Shepherd, a name familiar to the T20 franchise circuit, has had his moments of glory, particularly winning the CPL title with the Guyana Amazon Warriors earlier this year. Furthermore, he was a direct signing for the Joburg Super Kings ahead of the inaugural SA20 auction. Known for his ability to hit the deck with the ball and provide some powerful late-order hitting, Shepherd has represented his national team in 31 T20Is, boasting an impressive batting strike rate of 153.57 and a bowling economy rate of 10.38.
This trade to the Mumbai Indians may open up new opportunities for Shepherd in the upcoming IPL season, and it will be interesting to see how he contributes to his new franchise in the quest for success.
