Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh opened up on the controversial ICC ODI World Cup 2023 photo with his feet on the trophy. He expressed that he meant no disrespect to the trophy and wouldn’t mind doing it again. Australia won the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 defeating India in the final at Ahmedabad.
Following Australia’s title win, a photo of Mitchell Marsh with his feet on the trophy went viral on social media. Several Indian fans criticised the photo. However, Mitchell Marsh in a recent interview clarified that he meant no disrespect. Speaking to the SEN Radio network, Marsh opened up on the incident. When asked if he would do it again, the Australian cricketer said,
“Yeah probably, to be honest.”
“There was no disrespect meant in that photo at all. I haven’t given it too much thought, I haven’t seen a lot on social media even though everyone tells me it’s gone off. There’s nothing in that,” added Mitchell Marsh.

All-rounder Mitchell Marsh headed back to Australia following the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 win. However, some of his teammates had to stay back for the T20I series against India. Marsh expressed that the players would have wanted to celebrate the win with their families back in Australia. However, they had to stay back for the series.
“Yeah it was pretty outrageous for the guys that had to stay behind,” Marsh said.
“It’s a fine line because we’ve got to respect the fact we’re playing for Australia and it’s a series against India which is always really big.”
“But there’s also the human side of it, the boys have just won a World Cup and probably deserve to celebrate for a while and get home to their families. It’s an interesting one. You’d hope there’s not too many of those series put on after big tournaments again.” he added.
The likes of Steve Smith, Adam Zampa, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis and Sean Abbott were part of the first three T20I matches against India. They flew back home after the three games.
