Team India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, has made a triumphant return to Mumbai following the team’s commendable performance in the two-match Test series against South Africa. The series concluded in a 1-1 draw, and the trophy was shared between the two teams. In the first Test in Centurion, the hosts secured a convincing victory by an innings and 32 runs, with Rohit struggling with the bat, scoring 5 (14) and 0 (8) in both innings.
However, the Indian team staged a remarkable comeback in the second Test in Cape Town, clinching a seven-wicket win. Rohit contributed significantly with scores of 39 (50) and an unbeaten 17* (22) in the batting department. This victory marked Rohit Sharma as only the second Indian captain to draw a Test series in South Africa, with MS Dhoni achieving the feat on the 2010-11 tour.
Thanks to the victory, Rohit Sharma joined a select club as the second Indian captain to secure a draw in a Test series in South Africa, a feat previously achieved by MS Dhoni during the 2010-11 tour. With the Test concluding swiftly, Rohit promptly returned to India, where he can be seen interacting with fans and taking photos upon his arrival in Mumbai in the provided video.

Reflecting on the series, Rohit Sharma expressed his joy at securing India’s first Test victory in Cape Town and becoming the first Asian captain to achieve this in red-ball cricket at the venue. Drawing parallels between the Cape Town Test and the historic win at Gabba in 2021, Rohit emphasized the significance of both victories.
The Gabba win saw an inexperienced Indian team, led by Ajinkya Rahane, triumph over the mighty Australian side, breaking the hosts’ unbeaten streak of over 30 years.
In a press conference, Rohit stated, “It’ll be one of our best Test match victories. Having not won here in Cape Town [before] this puts it right up there with all the victories that we’ve had. It’s very hard to compare the Test matches that you play because every Test match has its own importance and own relevance.”
Continuing his reflection on the Gabba win, Rohit highlighted its historic nature, saying, “The last Test match that was lost by Australia in Brisbane was in 1988, I think. Nearly after 23, 24 years [32 years], we won the Test match there. It kind of became like their fortress. They never lose a test match there. So you can’t really rank the Test matches but this has to be right up there because we had not won here. That shows how important a venue this is for us to come here and perform.”
