India and England will kick off a 5-match Test series starting on January 25th in Hyderabad. As the India-England Test series approaches, former England spinner Monty Panesar commended India’s spin maestro, R Ashwin. Panesar, a key figure in England’s spin department, likened Ashwin to a constantly evolving application, emphasizing the off-spinner’s capacity to introduce new elements to his game.
In a recent interview, Panesar commended R Ashwin, recognizing the vital role the Indian spinner is likely to assume in the upcoming series, particularly with India having home-field advantage. Panesar likened Ashwin’s flexibility to that of a sophisticated app that undergoes regular updates every six months.
“He’s like an app, he keeps updating every six months! That’s what he has done through his career. I always find that I am a student when it comes to Ashwin’s bowling. I feel I am continually learning something new about his bowling. That’s the asset Ashwin is. He is a brilliant bowler,” remarked Panesar.
Panesar underscored that R Ashwin’s continuous skill refinement sets him apart as a formidable performer, presenting a tough challenge for any batting lineup. The ex-England cricketer expressed his respect for Ashwin’s bowling excellence, emphasizing the spinner’s skill in incorporating variations and staying ahead in the game.
England plans to bring their own chef when travelling to India
After several English players fell ill in Pakistan in December 2022 due to poor food, England is taking precautions to prevent a recurrence in India. The ECB has made a decision that might influence how cricket teams approach travel in the future.
Renowned Manchester United chef Omar Meziane has been appointed as the personal chef for the England squad to provide them with familiar and nutritious food.
Given that Indian cuisine, known for its bold use of spices, can be overwhelming for foreign players, this move aims to streamline the team’s dietary choices, allowing them to concentrate on the challenging cricket matches ahead without the added burden of deciding what to eat.
