“I Don’t Try To Coach Samit” – Rahul Dravid Talks About His Son In A Recent Interaction

Team India head coach Rahul Dravid’s son, Samit Dravid has been making headlines with his performance for Karnataka in age-group tournaments. He is currently playing for the state team in the Cooch Behar Trophy. In a recent fun interaction, Rahul Dravid revealed that he doesn’t try to coach Samit.

Rahul Dravid celebrated his 51st birthday on January 11 in Mohali as India took on Afghanistan in the first T20I. Speaking before the game, the Indian head coach spoke about the team’s performance. He also spoke about his son Samit Dravid, who has been performing well in age-group cricket. When asked by Suresh Raina whether coaching the Indian team is easy or coaching Samit is difficult, Rahul Dravid said,

“I don’t try to coach Samit (laughs). I have stopped doing that. It’s difficult to be a parent as well as a coach. So I try to be a parent, but even there I don’t know how I am doing.”

Not a lot of time to prepare for the T20 World Cup: Rahul Dravid

Team India has kicked off their preparations for the T20 World Cup 2024 which is set to take place later this year. Rahul Dravid expressed that there is not much time to prepare for the mega-event, unlike the ODI World Cup that took place last year. He expressed that the players need to adapt themselves to the format and conditions during the World Cup. He said,

“After the last T20I World Cup (2022) we prioritised the ODI World Cup. But we don’t have that many T20I games after that (ODI WC). So, this T20I WC is slightly different in the sense that (there’s) not a lot of time to prepare for that. We have to rely on the cricket that we have and also a little bit on the IPL.”

“We might not get too many chances to play together, so we will have to work around that. You just need to adapt and be flexible. We had a good preparation leading into the one-day WC. Even in the last T20I World Cup, we had a lot of games together as a group. This time we won’t have that (many matches) probably, but it is all about adapting while going ahead,” added Rahul Dravid.
