During India’s first innings on Day 1 against England at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, a spectator approached the pitch to touch Rohit Sharma‘s feet. Rohit Sharma didn’t like it when a fan wearing a Virat Kohli jersey came up to him. Rohit made the fan leave, and security took care of it quickly.

Incidents of fans bypassing security to approach players on the field have sadly become frequent. In a recent occurrence at the second T20I against Afghanistan in Indore, a fan managed to reach the ground and embrace Virat Kohli. The incident left ex-Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar furious, and he held the security personnel at the venue responsible for it.
“The problem is that they (security personnel) watch the match instead of watching the crowd. Cricketers are hugely popular and this keeps happening,” Sunil Gavaskar said on the commentary on JioCinema.
India made sure they had a chance to bat on the first day by bowling out England for 246 in 64.3 overs in the initial innings.
Rohit Sharma picked up momentum after taking a backseat to Yashasvi Jaiswal initially
India’s batting began strongly, mainly thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal, who confidently faced the new ball bowlers. The young player showcased his skills against both seamers and spinners, with Rohit Sharma providing solid support in a complementary role.
Gradually, Rohit increased his pace at the opposite end. India maintained a run rate of nearly seven runs per over until Rohit Sharma, playing aggressively, lost his wicket to a reckless shot. Rohit scored 24 runs from 27 deliveries with three boundaries.
As of now, the team is at 80/1, and there’s still plenty of room for them to build on their score with more action expected on Day 1 of the tour.
