IND vs ENG: [WATCH] Shubman Gill Throws His Wicket After Having A Good Start

Shubman Gill couldn’t capitalize on a promising beginning, losing his wicket unexpectedly in the first session of Day 2 in the ongoing Hyderabad Test between India and England.

Despite the early loss of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill appeared settled at the crease. Partnering with KL Rahul, they contributed 36 runs for the third wicket, suggesting a smooth path for India to surpass England’s first-innings score.

However, feeling pressure from dot balls, Gill attempted an ambitious shot, resulting in a significant cost. Shubman Gill attempted to flick a full delivery from Tom Hartley between mid-on and short mid-wicket but failed to connect cleanly.

The ball found Ben Duckett, giving the debutant the joy of securing his first Test wicket. You can watch the video of dismissal here:

Even after spending 66 balls at the crease for his 23 runs, Gill appeared to lack full control over his shots. This pattern mirrors his Test career, where innings start with promise but often conclude in frustration.

Shubman Gill failed to take advantage of his early escape

Shubman Gill could have faced an earlier dismissal on Day 2 if the England fielders had been more alert. While facing Joe Root, he advanced down the track, hitting the ball straight down the ground. However, the angle from around the wicket meant he was distant from the pitch of the ball.

Predictably, Gill mistimed the shot, sending the ball high into the air. However, Ben Stokes lost track of the trajectory and only noticed it after it made contact with the ground. This fortunate incident could have shifted the momentum for Shubman Gill, but the young player swiftly returned to the dugout.

The home team aims for a substantial partnership between KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer to prevent a collapse. Recognizing the increasing difficulty of batting as the match unfolds, India aims to bat only once and post a significant total.
