Prithvi Shaw Makes A Comeback To The Ranji Trophy Squad For Mumbai

Following nearly six months away from competitive cricket, Prithvi Shaw has been included in Mumbai’s squad for the remainder of the 2024 Ranji Trophy season. The opener had endured a knee ligament injury in August of the previous year, causing him to miss both the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

During his recovery, Shaw underwent rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, gradually increasing his workload as he regained fitness.

Previous reports had indicated that Prithvi Shaw might not receive a Return To Play (RTP) certificate for the red-ball competition to avoid the risk of an immediate breakdown after an extended absence.

However, he is now poised to be eligible and ready to play against Bengal at the Eden Gardens from February 2.

“Prithvi has been given a ‘RTP’ certificate by the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy. The same was sent to the Mumbai Cricket Association on Wednesday. He has been batting well at the NCA nets recently,” a BCCI source told the Times of India.

Ajinkya Naik, the Secretary of the Mumbai Cricket Association, verified by stating:

“Once the NCA notified to us of Prithvi having been cleared fit, the selection committee has added him to the squad for the next Ranji Trophy game.”

Shaw’s comeback could serve as a significant uplift for Mumbai, who, despite winning three of their four matches, have faced challenges in the batting department.

The highly successful domestic team will be without one of their most reliable batsmen, Sarfaraz Khan, who has been chosen for India’s squad in the ongoing Test series against England. Additionally, the team is still without Shardul Thakur, who is awaiting clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
