Gautam Gambhir Urges Caution: Let Yashasvi Jaiswal Flourish Without Overhyping in Record-Breaking Test Match

Gautam Gambhir, the former Indian opener, commends Yashasvi Jaiswal’s stellar performance in the ongoing test match against England but cautions against the prevalent tendency to overhype young cricket sensations in India. Urging a more patient approach, Gambhir emphasizes the media’s role in exaggerating achievements and creating undue pressure on emerging talents.

“I want to congratulate the youngster for his achievement but, more importantly, I want to tell everyone that let the young man play. We have seen in the past that in India we have a habit, especially the media, to over-hype their achievements and give them tags and make them look like heroes,” says Gambhir, highlighting the adverse impact of high expectations on players’ natural game.

Citing the struggles of Shubman Gill as a cautionary example, Gambhir stresses the importance of allowing young players to evolve naturally and enjoy their cricket. “Let him grow and enjoy his cricket. We should give them time as they are quality players, and they have shown it in the past with their performance. That is why they are playing for India,” he adds.

While Yashasvi Jaiswal celebrates his maiden Test double-century, Shubman Gill faces challenges on the pitch with recent low scores. Gambhir’s plea for patience extends to cricket enthusiasts, urging them to let these players develop at their own pace.

In the broader context of the 2nd Test, the day witnesses Jaiswal’s heroics and Jasprit Bumrah‘s remarkable six-wicket haul, swinging the momentum in India’s favor. Despite initial resistance from England’s openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, Bumrah’s bowling prowess leads to their downfall, leaving India in a commanding position with a lead of 143 by stumps on day two.
