Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma is recognized not just for his exceptional batting abilities but also for his sense of humor. Whether on the field with his clever one-liners or off the field during press conferences and interactions with fans, he consistently endeavors to bring joy and laughter.
In 2020, during the global Coronavirus pandemic when cricketing activities were halted, Rohit remained highly engaged on social media. He engaged in conversations with fellow cricketers and organized Q&A sessions with fans.
In a Q&A session, Rohit Sharma provided a humorous reply to a question about his long-time teammate Virat Kohli. Amid speculations about a potential discord between the two Indian cricket superstars, a user mistakenly spelled Kohli’s name as “Kholi” while asking Rohit to describe him in one word.
This provided Rohit an opportunity to showcase his unique sense of humor, and he responded:
“Check the spelling.”
As usual, the amusing response from the Indian captain delighted fans, who lauded his sense of humor. In the same Q&A session, Rohit also acknowledged MS Dhoni, referring to him as a cricket legend.
Despite persistent rumors suggesting tensions between Rohit and Kohli, the two have consistently expressed admiration and support for each other whenever the opportunity arises.
In February 2022, during a period when Kohli was facing challenges with his batting form, Rohit publicly supported the star cricketer, stating:
“If you guys (media) can keep quiet, everything will fall in place,” he said.
When questions surfaced about Kohli’s form following India’s 3-0 ODI series triumph against West Indies, the opening batsman replied:
“Do you think he needs confidence? What are you saying?… I don’t think there is anything wrong. The team management is not at all worried about that.”
Kohli emerged as the top run-scorer in the 2023 ODI World Cup, accumulating 765 runs in 11 innings at an impressive average of 95.62 and a strike rate of 90.32. This included three centuries and six half-centuries.
Virat Kohli has chosen not to participate in the England Tests citing personal reasons
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is absent from the ongoing Test series against England at home due to personal reasons. Initially named in the Indian squad for the first two Tests, the 35-year-old later withdrew.
There was uncertainty about his participation in the remaining three Tests. However, the BCCI, while announcing the squad for the last three matches against England, officially confirmed Kohli’s unavailability through a press release:
“Virat Kohli will remain unavailable for selection for the remainder of the series due to personal reasons. The Board fully respects and supports Mr. Kohli’s decision.”
In a recent update, KL Rahul won’t be available for the upcoming third Test, commencing on February 15 in Rajkot, as he hasn’t completely recuperated from his injury.
