India registered a resounding 434-run victory over England in the 3rd Test match at Rajkot to help the hosts take a 2-1 lead in the 5-match Test series. It was an impressive performance by the Men in Blue Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja scored centuries while Sarfaraz Khan scored a quickfire 62 that helped the Indian team post 445 in the first innings.
Indian team looked struggling at the end of day 2, but they came back stronger to bowl out England for 319 runs taking a big lead of 126 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed an unbeaten 214 along with Gill and Sarfaraz Khan’s knock helping India set a daunting target of 557. It was a superb effort by Indian bowlers as they bowled out England for 122 winning the match by 434 runs.
The fourth and decisive test match will be played at JSCA Stadium, Ranchi from 23rd February onwards. It promises to be an exciting encounter as Bumrah has been rested while KL Rahul is not yet fit for the 4th test match.
Here we look at the 3 records that can be broken in the 4th Test:
- Yashasvi Jaiswal could score the most runs after 15 innings.
The explosive left-handed batter Yashasvi Jaiswal had a dream run so far in the ongoing Test series against England. He is the leading run-getter with 545 runs from 4 innings including 2 centuries including 2 double centuries with 209 and 214 not out which has played a key role in India taking 2-1 lead in the series.
Jaiswal would be hoping to continue his brilliant form in the fourth test match at Ranchi. If he could add 157 runs in the next two innings, then he could become the batter with the most runs after 15 innings. England’s Herbert Sutcliffe holds the record with 1017 runs in 15 innings. Jaiswal is currently on 861 runs after 13 innings and hoping to give another flying start to the Indian team in the 4th test match at Ranchi.
- Rohit Sharma could become the first player to hit 600 international sixes.
The Indian captain Rohit Sharma led from the front with a captain’s knock in the first innings of the 3rd test match at Rajkot. After opting to bat first, India looked in trouble with 33 for 3. Rohit Sharma got reprieve twice before cashing in on the chance making 131 and helping the hosts recover from a tough situation.
Rohit Sharma has smashed 593 sixes in international cricket across all formats. He has hit 80 sixes in test matches, 323 in One-day internationals and 190 sixes in shortest format. Rohit Sharma is seven sixes away from becoming the first international player to smash 600 sixes across all formats.
He would be hoping to lead from the front and help Team India register a series victory over the England side.
- R Ashwin could become the first Indian bowler to grab 100 wickets vs England
Ravichandran Ashwin achieved the milestone of 500 wickets by dismissing Zak Crawley in the first innings of the third test at Rajkot. He went away to home due to a family emergency. Ashwin returned on the fourth day getting the wicket of Tom Hartley.
Ashwin has been a nightmare for the England team on turning pitches in India. He has grabbed a total of 99 wickets. He is just one wicket away to become the first Indian bowler to pick 100 test wickets against England.
He is just three wickets away from going past Anil Kumble as most wickets are taken in Test matches on Indian soil. Ashwin has grabbed 348 wickets on Indian soil from his 501. He has a great chance to go past Kumble 350.
Ashwin would be looking to do the early damage against an explosive England batting lineup that could put pressure on inexperienced Indian pace bowling lineup.
