IPL 2024: 5 Contenders To Win The Orange Cap
Yashavi Jaiswal

The Indian Premier League is a great platform for established players to feature in different franchises and stake claim in the Indian team. Virat Kohli holds the record of scoring 973 runs during the 2016 season when Royal Challengers Bangalore lost in the finals to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Many top international and Indian players provide excellent cricketing skills to win the Orange Cap title. Shubman Gill won the Orange Cap last year for scoring 890 runs from 17 matches including 3 centuries and 4 half-centuries to his name.

Here we look at the top 5 contenders to win the Orange Cap in IPL 2024.

  1. Yashavi Jaiswal

The stylish left-handed batter Yashavi Jaiswal will be looking to showcase his batting skills during the IPL 2024. He was the leading run scorer for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2023 with 625 runs from 14 matches (14 innings) including 1 century and 5 half-centuries. His best score was 124 against Mumbai Indians. Despite his efforts, Rajasthan Royals lost that match.

Jaiswal would be looking to provide flying starts to Rajasthan Royals along with Jos Buttler. His aggressive style of play in the first six overs would put pressure on the opponent bowlers. He scored an amazing strike of 163.61 and will be eager to continue his impressive form this season also. Rajasthan Royals failed to qualify for the knockout stage as they finished 5th in IPL 2023.

  1. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli was at his best during the Indian Premier League 2023. He looked in sublime touch adding four times 100 plus partnerships with Faf du Plessis. His batting made the batting look easy with some lovely shots that put pressure on the opponent bowlers.

Kohli scored 639 runs from 14 matches (14 innings) with 2 centuries and 6 half-centuries to his name. His best score came against Sunrisers Hyderabad with 101 not out. He would be looking to continue his brilliant form for Royal Challengers Bangalore and help them win their first title ever.

  1. Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler had a disappointing standard for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2023. He scored just 392 runs from 14 matches (14 innings) with only 4 half-centuries. His best score in the tournament was 95 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Buttler looked out of sorts and was dismissed without opening his account five times. He would be eager to make a strong comeback in this year’s IPL. The opener had a disappointing outing in the 2023 World Cup where England failed to qualify for the knockout stage.

  1. Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell showed his batting abilities with a record-equaling 5th century in the shorter format. He achieved this feat during the 2nd T20I match against West Indies and helped Australia register a comfortable win.

Maxwell had a great outing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2023. He scored 400 runs from 14 matches (14 innings) including 5 half-centuries with match match-winning knock of 77 against Rajasthan Royals.

He showed his skills with brilliant unbeaten double century that helped Australia win by 3 wickets against Afghanistan in World Cup 2023.

  1. Rachin Ravindra

He had a great outing for New Zealand in the recently concluded World Cup 2023 where his batting went up to the next level scoring 578 runs from 10 matches (10 innings) with 3 centuries and 2 half-centuries to his name.

He has been in sensational form across all formats. Rachin could open the innings along with Ruturaj Gaikwad. His batting skills against the spinners and pace bowlers make him a special player.
