Team India youngster Dhruv Jurel opened up on comparisons with former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, after a brilliant Test debut against England at home in the recently concluded series. He expressed that Dhoni is his idol, but it is very difficult to become like him.
Dhruv Jurel was handed an India Test cap in the third Test at Rajkot. He had an impressive debut series for India. He scored 190 runs at an average of 63.33, including a highest score of 90. Former cricketers and fans drew comparisons between Jurel and MS Dhoni. Talking about the former India captain, Dhruv said to India Today,
“MS Dhoni has been my idol from the very start. I relate with him the most since I have been keeping him from the start of my career. Everyone has been saying that I will become the next Dhoni, but it is very tough to become Dhoni.”
“Nobody can become MS Dhoni. I want to be Dhruv because I don’t think anyone can achieve what MS Dhoni has achieved in world cricket,” he added.

Test matches are always my first priority: Dhruv Jurel
Team India batter Dhruv Jurel revealed his favourite format. He expressed that he considers Test cricket as his top priority. Jurel added that wants to perform well in the format for the country. Speaking to India Today, the Indian wicket-keeper batter said,
“Test matches are always my first priority. I was asked this when I was a kid and I said at the time that I wanted to play 200 Test matches. I realised later that 200 Tests is a lot (laughs).”
Dhruv also further revealed that he prefers facing the fast bowlers than the spinners. He also spoke about his favourite team-mates, naming Rinku Singh and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The youngster will be seen playing alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal in the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024 season.
