Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) veteran Virat Kohli is currently practicing with his teammates in Chennai ahead of IPL 2024’s opening match. RCB is scheduled to face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the season’s inaugural game on Friday, March 22, at Chepauk Stadium.
Kohli has been inactive since early January, his last appearance being in the T20 series against Afghanistan. The former Indian captain opted out of the five-match Test series against England citing personal reasons.
Entering the IPL with minimal match practice due to the break, he has been diligently honing his skills in the nets, facing both fast bowlers and spinners in an effort to regain his rhythm.
A fan posted a brief video on X platform offering a sneak peek into Virat Kohli’s net practice session before the match against CSK. Kohli appeared to be in fine form, showcasing a splendid lofted shot on the off-side.

“Cannot wait to watch the best of him this coming season”-AB de Villiers discussing his ex-RCB teammate Virat Kohli
Former South African captain AB de Villiers recently shared his excitement about seeing Virat Kohli return to action in IPL 2024 following a break. Shedding light on this in a video posted on his YouTube channel, De Villiers stated:
“Stalwart, King Kohli, over 7000 runs, over 200 IPL matches—that’s simply incredible. That’s like a career in itself. Virat will be back. We’ve missed him dearly, and absolutely cannot wait to watch the best of him this coming season.”
Regarding Kohli’s opening partner and RCB captain Faf du Plessis, De Villiers also remarked:
“He has had a little bit of a dip in form of late, but towards the back end of the SA20, he started finding his feet again, which boasts well for RCB this season.”
AB de Villiers also expressed his view that RCB possesses strong bowling depth, which positions them as strong contenders to win the trophy this year.
“The bowling department, led by Mohammed Siraj, plays a huge role in that bowling department. I think there’s very nice depth this time around, and I think that’s one of the big reasons I feel RCB is going to go all the way this year,” he added.
