Lucknow Super Giants will face Chennai Super Kings in match 34 of IPL 2024 to be played at Lucknow on 19th April. Under KL Rahul’s captaincy, LSG reached the playoff stage in the first season in 2022 losing to RCB in the eliminator.
KL Rahul did not play a full season last year as he injured himself against RCB. On the famous R Ashwin YouTube channel, he revealed that RCB holds a special place for him. He played for RCB in 2013 and then played in the 2016 edition. After being released, he played for the Kings XI Punjab franchise from 2018 to 2021.
KL Rahul has scored so far 204 runs in 6 matches including 1 half-century to his name with the best score of 58 against Rajasthan Royals. Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans were the two new franchises launched. LSG appointed KL Rahul as their captain in 2022.
KL Rahul told R Ashwin on his YouTube Channel: “Virat was there (ITC Gardenia), coach Ray Jennings and other support staff were also there and Virat only said, ‘Would you want to sign this contract and play for RCB?’ I was like, ‘Are you kidding? It was always my dream.’ And then he said ‘I’m just kidding. It’s not an option, just sign this contract.’ I signed and Virat said ‘It’s gonna be a crazy ride. You’re going to enjoy a lot in the next couple of months.”
LSG captain would be hoping for a good performance against CSK and get their campaign back on track after two successive losses to Delhi Capitals and KKR.
KL Rahul’s performance for RCB
KL Rahul was signed by RCB franchise in 2013. He played just 5 matches that season with only 20 runs scored with best score of 12.
His best season for RCB came during the 2016 edition. KL Rahul made 397 from 14 matches with 4 half-centuries to his name with best score of 68. He played a key role in helping RCB qualify for the finals.
“I would have also loved to play for Bangalore. I had started there; I would have liked to finish there and that was there in my head. But the beauty of IPL is that you get to go into different teams with different players.”
