The stalwart of Pakistan Women’s Cricket, Bismah Maroof has decided to retire from international cricket after a disappointing 0-3 loss to West Indies in the 2022-25 ICC One-day international Championship cycle played at home.
It is bad news for the Pakistan women’s team as she was the backbone of the middle order in One-day internationals and T20I format. Maroof captained Pakistan in 62 T20Is and 34 One-day international matches. She finishes as the leading run-getter for Pakistan in both T20I and ODI formats.
During her long career, Bismah played a total of 136 ODI matches with 3369 runs including 21 fifties including the best score of 99. In the shortest format, the left-handed Bismah played a total of 2983 runs from 140 matches including 12 half-centuries to her name.
“I have decided to retire from the game I love the most. It has been an incredible journey, filled with challenges, victories, and unforgettable memories,” she was quoted as saying via a PCB release on Thursday. “I want to express my gratitude to my family, who has supported me throughout my cricketing journey, from the very beginning until now.
“I also want to extend my thanks to the Pakistan Cricket Board for believing in me and providing the platform to showcase my talent. The support from the PCB has been invaluable, particularly in implementing the first-ever parental policy for me, which enabled me to represent my country at the highest-level while being a mother.
Bismah Maroof played a key role for Pakistan throughout the years
Bismah Maroof made her ODI debut for Pakistan on 13th December 2006 against India. Her final match was against West Indies at Karachi in the 3rd ODI match played yesterday.
It will be a massive blow for the Pakistani women’s team as the middle order would be weakened with the quality of play, she had. She took part in T20 World Cups, 50 over World Cups, Asia Cup, and other major ICC events. Bismah took part in the ICC T20 World Cup 2023 played in South Africa.
Bismah Maroof was a part of the winning team that won the gold medal during the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou. They won the gold medal in the 2018 edition again in Incheon.
