Punjab Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders in a high-scoring IPL 2024 match played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on 26th April 2024. After being asked to bat first by Sam Curran, Sunil Narine, and Phil Salt looked in sublime touch putting enough pressure on PBKS bowlers right from the word go. KKR openers added 138 runs for the opening wicket which laid a strong foundation for a big total.
Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer, and Andre Russell made valuable contributions helping KKR post 261 for 6 in 20 overs. PBKS batters made the batting easy as Prabhsimran Singh and Bairstow added 93 runs for the opening wicket. Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw added another superb partnership which made life tough for KKR bowlers. Shashank Singh and Bairstow ensured that PBKS won the match by 8 wickets with 8 balls to spare.
For his 108 not out, Jonny Bairstow was named the player of the match award. With this win, PBKS kept their hopes of reaching the playoff stage alive.

Punjab Kings chased down the highest target in IPL history. They surpassed the record of Rajasthan Royals who chased down 224 against KKR at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Punjab Kings also recorded the highest-ever run chase in T20 format. They chased down 262 surpassing South Africa’s record of 259 against West Indies.
They also chase down the joint-highest total in IPL innings. The previous best was by Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Sunrisers Hyderabad at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders saw a record of 42 sixes being hit in men’s T20 cricket history.
Punjab Kings also recorded the highest number of sixes in IPL innings. They smashed 24 sixes in the entire match going past SRH’s 22 sixes against DC. Jonny Bairstow smashed 9 sixes, Shashank Singh 8 sixes, Rilee Rossouw 2 sixes, and Prabhsimran Singh 5 hits across the line.
Prabhsimran Singh hit the 3rd fastest fifty by PBKS batter off just 18 deliveries.
PBKS recorded the highest score during their IPL history with 93 runs for the loss of 1 wicket.
The match between KKR and PBKS saw the second-highest aggregate in IPL as a total of 523 runs were scored.
