Former Mumbai batsman Amol Mazumdar is one of the unluckiest cricketers to have not represented Team India in Test cricket. Despite knocking tons of runs in List A cricket, Mazumdar couldn’t break through the door. On Friday, current India head coach Ravi Shastri heaped praise on Amol saying that it was India’s loss not to see him in the whites.
Muzumdar made his first-class debut in 1993-94 season, the same season when Ravi Shastri played his last. On his debut for Mumbai, he scored an unbeaten 260 in Ranji quarter-final against Haryana. He played alongside Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid in India U-19. But he never got his reward as he grew up in an era when stalwarts like Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, and Rahul Dravid dominated Indian cricket.

Amol Mazumdar, who has knocked 11167 runs in 260 innings in first-class cricket is clear the unluckiest cricketers not to play for India. Ravi Shastri also spoke on the same lines as he heaps praise on Amol Mazumdar while reminiscing his past days on social media site Twitter.

The current batting coach of South Africa Amol Mazumdar was quick to respond to the tweet. Hailing Ravi Shastri as one of his childhood heroes, the talismanic run-scorer admitted that he still cherish the moment when Shastri put his arm around his shoulder after Mumbai’s memorable Ranji Trophy victory in 1993-94.
“He was my hero growing up. When he put his arm around my shoulder after we won the Ranji Trophy at Wankhede 1993-94 n said well done young man.! It is a memory I cherish even today. So thank you skipper.. You taught us to Win.!” Amol Mazumdar wrote in reply.
