The Indian Women’s team sealed the series with a commanding victory over host Bangladesh in the 3rd T20I match played at Sylhet International Ground, Sylhet on 2nd May 2024. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to field first. Dilara Akhter showed intent right from the word go putting pressure on Indian bowlers.
Bangladesh women raced away to 44 for 0 at the end of six overs. Renuka Singh got the breakthrough dismissing Murshida Khatun. Dilara and Murshida Khatun added 46 runs for the opening wicket. The Indian bowlers kept it tight picking wickets at regular intervals not allowing Bangladesh batters to score runs easily.
It was a disciplined bowling effort by the Indian bowlers as they restricted the hosts to just 117 for 8 in 20 overs. For the Indian team, Radha Yadav took 2 for 22, Shreyanka, Pooja Vastkar, and Renuka Singh took 1 wicket each while three of the batters were run out.
The Indian women’s team performed brilliantly in today’s encounter with Shafali Varma and Smriti Mandhana returning to form with explosive batting. They did not allow the Bangladesh bowlers to settle keeping the scoreboard ticking.
Indian batters chase down the target easily
Chasing down 118 runs to win, Shafali Varma and Smriti Mandhana looked in sublime touch putting the bowlers under immense pressure. It was a superb batting by Indian openers as they scored 59 for 0 in the first six overs.
After the field restrictions, Mandhana and Varma maintained the momentum keeping the scoreboard ticking. Shafali Varma completed her fifty off 36 balls before being dismissed. Shafali and Mandhana added 91 runs for the opening wicket.
It was a complete performance by the Indian team as they chased down the target of 118 with ease. They won with 7 wickets with 9 balls to spare. Indian team sealed the 5-match series.
For her 51 off 38 deliveries, Shafali Varma was named the Player of the Match award. They will look for combinations in the remaining two matches. The Indian women’s team performed brilliantly in the three matches so far winning all of them comfortably.
