According to reports from The Guardian, the iconic English cricketer James Anderson is poised to retire from his remarkable international career this summer. The reports indicate that head coach Brendon McCullum journeyed to the UK to personally meet the veteran fast bowler and convey that the English Test team is focusing on the future.
Anderson’s ultimate international appearances will occur during England’s three-Test series at home versus the West Indies and Sri Lanka. The initial West Indies Test kicks off at Lord’s on July 14, with the probable final match against Sri Lanka, marking Anderson’s farewell, scheduled for September 6 at the Oval.
The 41-year-old recently participated in the five-Test series away against India, securing 10 wickets across four matches. In response to inquiries following the Indian tour regarding James Anderson’s potential inclusion in England’s squad for the 2025-26 Ashes in Australia, McCullum stated, as cited by The Guardian:
“I don’t know, honestly. Who knows where the end line for him is but for now, just enjoy having Jimmy around and make sure we utilise that experience he’s got. He’s a great resource for the other guys within the unit.”
