[WATCH]- Ravindra Jadeja Given Out Obstructing The Field During CSK vs RR Match

Ravindra Jadeja, an all-rounder for the Chennai Super Kings, became only the third player in IPL history to be penalized for blocking the field during Sunday’s IPL 2024 match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.

Coming into the game, Simarjeet Singh took three wickets to limit RR to a modest total, before Ruturaj Gaikwad led by example to lead the five-time champions to a crucial victory.

CSK now has 14 points from 13 matches, putting them in a solid position to qualify for the playoffs. However, if Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeats Delhi Capitals, the match between CSK and RCB could be crucial in determining the playoff lineup.

In the Monday IPL 2024 encounter between the Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, Ravindra Jadeja was given a dismissal for “obstructing the field.” When CSK was chasing runs in the sixteenth over, Jadeja easily finished one run after guiding an Avesh Khan delivery to the third man.

As Ruturaj Gaikwad motioned for the all-rounder to turn around, he was halfway down the pitch, going for another run. Jadeja was attempting desperately to get back to the crease when Sanju Samson, the fielder, sent the ball towards the stumps on the non-striker’s end.

The third umpire determined that Jadeja had purposefully shifted his path while sprinting and decided to rule in favor of RR after the on-field umpires chose to review the play.

In the Indian Premier League, Ravindra Jadeja is not the first player to be sent out for obstructing the field. Two other players had also lost their wickets for the same error before him. Yusuf Pathan is the first player to be sent off for blocking the field.

When he was playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders against the now-defunct Pune Warriors in India in 2013, he was sent out for blocking the field. Amit Mishra was also dismissed for blocking the field later in 2019 while representing the Delhi Capitals against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
