Josh Hazlewood, an Australia new-ball seamer, acknowledged that their fielding has been their worst asset lately, putting them in danger of losing the T20 World Cup in 2024. The cricket player from New South Wales acknowledged that wind played a big role in catches falling, but he wouldn’t accept that as an explanation.
In the T20 World Cup, Men in Yellow’s fielding has fallen short, as evidenced by their six-ball outing against Scotland in that match. The 2021 World T20 champions lost by 21 runs to Afghanistan in the Super 8 match as a result of poor fielding, and they also lost to India in that match.
Hazlewood said during a press conference held after the game that the players have not taken a break from practicing fielding. According to cricket.com.au, he said:
“It hasn’t been good enough. I’m not sure what you can put it down to. The guys are always working as hard as ever on their fielding at training but there might not be as many opportunities to work on it at these tournaments. You’re always traveling and playing. But it hasn’t been good enough for the last few games in particular.” Josh Hazlewood said this in a press conference.
“One thing I guess here is that it’s very, very windy. It’s just as hard catching into the wind as it is down breeze, as we saw today with India as well. So you see some really good fielders drop catches” Josh Hazlewood added.
Afghanistan beat Bangladesh to enter the semi-finals, as Australia was knocked out:
At the T20 World Cup, Australia has been eliminated. Australia was eliminated from the Super Eight round as Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh with a thrilling 10-run victory. The match was not without significant drama.
The Men in Yellow lost to Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup, their second straight loss since winning the title in 2021. On their path to historic T20 World Cup semifinal qualifying, Afghanistan defeated Australia and New Zealand and advanced to the Super 8 after winning three of their four Group C games.
Afghanistan would have believed that they should have made it to the semifinals of the ODI World Cup in 2023, but Glenn Maxwell, a lunatic, prevented them from doing so. But when it counted, Afghanistan made sure to defeat Australia first and then the Bangla Tigers, who lost every game in the Super 8s, in an innings-ending victory.
