David Warner, an experienced hitter from Australia, ended his 15-year career as an international player after the Men in Yellow were eliminated from the present T20 World Cup.

Australia was knocked out shockingly in the ICC T20 World Cup Super 8 in 2024. Australia, drawn into Group 1 with Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and India, was expected to at least make it to the semifinals because they had won all four of their group-stage matches.

In the first game of the Super 8, they crushed Bangladesh. However, they were costly in their match against Afghanistan due to careless fielding and a poor batting display.

In international cricket, Australia suffered its first defeat at the hands of Afghanistan. Afghanistan was made possible as a result.

Josh Hazlewood, the prominent Australian pacer, was questioned about the issue following the match against India. He said that the team is waiting on the Afghanistan vs. Bangladesh match before celebrating David Warner‘s illustrious career.

Warner’s career came to an end after Afghanistan overcame Bangladesh to qualify.

“Nothing’s been said yet. It might be said after this [press conference] before the [evening] game, but I think we’ll wait until after the game, and then we’ll [acknowledge] the career that’s been. It’s been unbelievable. We’ll miss him around the group, out in the field and off-field—an amazing all-format career,” Josh Hazlewood was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“We’ve had a little taste of it. It’s sort of been a slow burn with Test cricket, ODI cricket, and now T20. Life without him—we’ve sort of gotten used to it a little bit in New Zealand. It’s always different when you lose a player who’s been there for so long. But we’ll move on and push forward,” he added.

In his last Twenty20 international match, he was only able to score six runs in the same number of deliveries against India. Unaware that this would be his last game, Warner pounded his bat in rage after being dismissed. No standing ovation or guard of honor was given.
