The upcoming limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka has undergone schedule revisions, affecting both the T20 and ODI series. Originally slated to commence on July 26, the tour will now kick off a day later, on Saturday, July 27, with the first of three T20 Internationals (T20Is) between India and Sri Lanka. The subsequent T20Is, initially planned for July 27 and 29, have been rescheduled to July 28 and 30, respectively, consolidating the series into a tighter timeframe.
While the adjustments to the T20Is are notable, the dates for the three One Day Internationals (ODIs) remain unchanged, except for the series opener, which has been pushed back from August 1 to Friday, August 2. Pallekele International Cricket Stadium will host all three T20Is with a 7 PM local time start, while R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo is set to stage the ODIs starting at 2:30 PM local time.
How India have performed in Sri Lanka recently?
India’s recent success in Sri Lanka includes their victorious campaign in the 2023 Asia Cup, where they triumphed over the hosts in the final held at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium. In a stunning display, pacer Mohammed Siraj’s exceptional figures of 6-21 led to Sri Lanka’s dismissal for a mere 50 runs in just 15.2 overs, disappointing the home fans. In response, Rohit Sharma’s squad effortlessly chased down the target of 51 runs in a mere 6.1 overs, securing a resounding 10-wicket victory.
As India gears up for the Asia Cup 2024, they enter with momentum from their recent triumph in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup. The team clinched the title by defeating South Africa in the final at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, marking their second T20 World Cup victory and their first unbeaten run throughout the tournament’s history. This victory further solidifies India’s position as a dominant force in international cricket, building anticipation for their upcoming series against Sri Lanka.
